How Budget Travel Led Us to Off the Path…
My love for travel really began shortly after we started homeschooling. With an extremely tight budget, travel looked very different for our family. We learned quickly that traveling off-season and off the path wasn’t just more affordable—it often led to richer, more memorable experiences.
Because we were so budget-conscious, we were always searching for places that offered value without sacrificing heart. That’s when we began discovering hidden gems everywhere we went—whether it was a cozy, affordable hotel, a locally owned restaurant tucked away from the crowds, or a lesser-known tourist destination that didn’t make the guidebooks or break rhe bank. Those off-the-path finds often became our favorite memories and shaped how we continue to explore and travel today.

How Hidden Gems Food Tours came to be.
As our travels continued, one thing consistently stood out—food. The places that left the biggest impression weren’t chain restaurants or trendy spots, but locally owned eateries filled with passion, history, and community. These were the places where owners loved sharing their story, their food, and their connection to the town they call home.
That love for discovering and supporting local restaurants and hearing their stories and passion for their life’s passion eventually grew into Hidden Gems Food Tours. What started as finding budget-friendly, hidden gem eateries for our family turned into a way to intentionally highlight the people and stories behind them. Through each tour, I get to connect guests with incredible local food and other shops while also sharing why these businesses exist, why they matter, and why small towns are worth celebrating.Hidden Gems Food Tours is about more than just eating—it’s about community, storytelling, history and slowing down enough to truly experience a place.
